I may be reaching the same conclusion. At first the Xilinx simulator seemed like the path of least resistance just because it's pleasantly integrated within the ISE package. I've only played with ModelSim a little bit, but it does seem nicer. And of course if the Xilinx simulator is giving incorrect results, that sort of seals the deal against it. That remains to be seen, however--I'm still betting that my own stupidity is at the root of the problem I've mentioned.
