But I am not surprised at all Hmm. I was surprised. But I suppose this could be another example of the "good enough is perfect" idea. Big programs are good enough because we have lots of memory. Inefficient programs are good enough because we have fast computers. Imperfect logic minimization is good enough because we have millions of gates. I think there are options that let you say to the synthesizer something like "Go ahead. Please take your time and do a good job. I can wait." I haven't tried to adjust them yet. Maybe it's time. And then of course there's this very cynical idea: The PLD vendors might not want you to have a synthesizer that's too smart, because then fewer people would need to buy their bigger/faster chips. -- Russ |
