Well, well. I finally got my hands on a Spartan-3E starter kit from Xilinx and had a chance to play with it for a while yesterday...
Every time I reconnect the USB programming cable to my PC, Windows acts all surprised, says "new hardware found", and proceeds to install the same drivers and whatnot that it did two minutes earlier. Somehow this doesn't seem right. Every time I plug in ANY USB device, Windows announces that there's been "new hardware found" and goes through that same process. It's the cross (one of many, actually) that we bear for using Windows. ...
-- Russ I'm planning to switch to LINUX eventually for all the worthwhile stuff. That should fix much of the rubbish we have to fight our way through every time there's a revision in anything. With some software that I've tried under Windows and Linux, on the same hardware (swappable HDD), I've seen that the software runs on the order of 5-25x as fast under LINUX. That was only one package, so YMMV, but it's worth a thought. RE |
