first of all, while the on-chip RAM on the Maxim/Dallas DS89C4x0's is only 1kKB, I've had 512kB attached and used nearly all of it with no problems. Further, the features make it capable of outperforming any AVR in a DIL package. Hi Richard, Yes, I know you are a big fan of the Dallas/Maxim '51, It's a nice chip with good DSP capability, I have 16 samples in my desk drawer ready to go. The problem I have is in 1 off's they cost £22.00 and £12.00 in 10 off's so they are very expensive over here, it wouldn't be so bad if they had included some more sram and a 12 bit a/d converter? Expanding the sram(xram) to say 64Kbyte is not an option, It's easier to migrate to AVR. Richard Erlacher said:
Further, if you're into DSP-ing, you might find the MAC in some of the SiLabs parts handy. Again, just too expensive and smd only. Richard Erlacher said:
Further, you can't get those AVR's from any mfg other than ATMEL. Now, I personally wouldn't use an ATMEL product under any circumstances, even low price. I've found them to be unreliable and untruthful in their written documents and, much more so, in their oral communications. I only needed to experience that once. I don't recommend anything of theirs to anyone. Obviously there is some truth in what you say, but what the hell does one do, try Pics or what? there really is only limited choice out there.
