You missed the point!
The point is that, if you really need speed, you should not be using 12/6 clockers - you should be using single-clockers. No messing about with overclocking! Hi Andy, No, I didn't miss the point, on the 8051 scene their are 12/6 clockers and single clockers, the single clockers amount to the Dallas and SIlabs(there are others I know), the latter are surface mount which I tend to shy away with at the moment not to mention the SIlabs are very expensive and rightly so they are a good chips but all the same they are smd's.Sorry, but if fast chips are available in pdil 40, like the AVR, then I'm going to stay with em. Many (most?) modern derivatives have push-pull outputs As I understand it, the 8051 ports are pull ups for the reason of being a high z input whilst providing good sinking capabilities as an output, I'm using the AT89C51ED2 and the waveforms comming out of this chip don't look healthy, more like triangular waves rather than square.
