What do you do in your spare time? Is it more important than improving a F/OSS application?
get a life, if "improving a F/OSS application" is more important tahn your wife and kids, I pity you. BTW why the heck would I use my precious spare time to play with a computer I am doing enough of that during working hours? YES, in my younger days I were sometimes stupid enough to play with a computer all night, but getting married and having kids cured that. You can demand anything, or even politely request it. Doesn't mean you'll get it. I'm sure you've heard the same or similar complaints about paid support as I have. Yes, I have heard them, that is why I test support before buying anything. I consider support more important than price, and even more important than quality. If the support is supreme, a gap in quality is fixed immediately, if quality id 99.9% and support is zero, i am sure I will find the 0,01%. to SDCC where after finding a bug I have two options: a) wait for someone, that has no obligation to me whatsoever, to fix it... Obligation no, desire usually yes. Do the research yourself--F/OSS applications usually get bugs fixed in far less time than proprietary apps. Especially security bugs. a) do you REALLY think I can run a development based on "usually" b) this is a 8052 forum so who is interested in discussing "Especially security bugs". if my '51 development comes to a standstill, do you think I worry about "security" at such a time. ...or b) spend two months getting familiar with the SDCC code and fix it myself some choice. That's always an option. It's usually not necessary, but submitting (good) patches is greatly appreciated by the application maintainers. Look up the definition of "bludger". here we go with 'usually' again. What do you think my boss would say if i told him "usually we can do work, often we can not"? erik |
