Like I said, I used it for 2 or 3 years until March of last year and it was the only thing I used on my desktop. Linux is the only thing I'd use on a server, but it's not ready for my desktop--and I feel that the 2-3 years I gave it was a reasonable effort. When I went back to Windows, I was just overwhelmed by how things just work. That doesn't mean I like Windows and, believe me, I'd love to use Linux instead. But after 2-3 years, it was still a drain on my productivity.
When that changes, I expect to go back to Linux; unless I've moved to a Mac. I can't imagine myself doing that, but I know some people that couldn't imagine themselves doing that and now they're using the Mac and lovin' it. Regards, Craig Steiner I went Microsoft free way back in 1990. Since 2003, I've been using a Mac in one form or another as my primary desktop. It "just works" to the point that I've only ever installed one device driver. Mostly, it stays out of my way, but has the tools I expect under the hood. Mac OS X is BSD Unix running on a Mach kenrel, you just have to go find the Unix part, they hide it rather well. The Mach kernel is fine for desktop use, but cripples the system as a server. The monolithic kernel found in Linux and the more traditional Unix variants is much faster. <shameless plug>I have it on good authority though that Jim Gosling is abandoning his Mac laptop for a Open Solaris laptop. He's specifically cited Apple's apparent lack of developer tool investment. OS X Java is out of date, and and slow.</shameless plug> Rob |
