Jeff,
Quite a lot of good points in there. Just to expound a bit... The older guys have been thru one of two "dead horse" projects, and have seen the toll it takes on themselves and their families. The young guys are more likely to be self destructive with visions of stock options dancing in their heads. That's one of the reasons Richard's comment about cellphones struck a nerve. A couple years ago, I ended up in Santa Clara, leaving my wife a 1st time Mom, ~3000 km away in Round Rock all alone, with a healing C-section scar and a 6 week old infant. If someone had asked me to turn off my cell phone, I would have handed them my employee badge, and walked out. As for screaming... Just walk out. Anyone that screams in a business setting isn't worth listening to. I don't care if it's Bill Gates, Vinod Khosla, Tom Perkins... Just leave. At least you'll have a story to tell your grand kids about, and probably a good one liner for your next interview. :-) Rob |
