#132455 - No joke. It's an automatic forward Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Hi Jeff,
No, it's not a joke. It's an actual article. After some number of seconds you will be automatically transferred to the article, assuming your browser supports such a thing. The article just talks about how Microsoft claims that you only need a five year old system to run Vista, but the author disagrees. He makes a point of claiming that you need to buy lots more memory today because you will need it later. It actually makes me wonder if he also buys a couple of extra cars today since he will eventually need new ones in the future. Sorry. Anyway, there is about zero danger of me upgrading to Vista. Frankly, I don't replace what isn't broken. I'm still running Win98 on most of my computers, and Win95 on the one in my shop. I do have one with Win2K Pro, because I needed it for a GPIB system years ago when I bought it, and I have a Tablet PC with WinXP Tablet, because I wanted the Tablet function for the mass spec prototype I'm working on. Basically, I agree with whoever posted that the best approach is to "upgrade" operating systems only when forced to buy a new computer. Then I "upgrade" to whatever comes on the new system. Moreover, I will never "upgrade" to anything that's still brand new. By the time I start using it I want everyone else in the world to have discovered all of the bugs and security holes. |
