You guys think this is a mega-corp. It's not!
I wouldn't call it micromanagement. I give a guy a task, we discuss it, and some time later, he comes around with his finished work product. He doesn't have to do it here, so if he wants music or to wash his clothes, or talk to his broker, at a given time, it's up to him. If he misses a delivery, though, he's out. I've not lost a guy for that in the past decade, so I must be choosing well. One guy's been with me since 1980. RE Now see, you're painting quite a different picture. But you've already stated that certain things are written into their contracts. Why are they written in? Missing a delivery should be written in! I'm 100% remote from my group. Not work from home, I'm ~3000 km (1900 miles) away in a different R&D office. I do work for a fortune 500 .com that promotes flexable work environments. They also invest heavily in training management how to measure performance. FWIW - When I visit the main office my cellphone is never more than 3 feet away from me, not even when meeting with my VP. Though the ringer might be turned off... |
