Were I to use some such stuff and willing "to contribute" i would REALLY like to know how I could "contribute"... Documentation, bug reports, suggestions or requests, some developers accept financial support, etc... ...and still maintain full speed doing what I am paid for. What do you do in your spare time? Is it more important than improving a F/OSS application? (Rhetorical question--I'm pretty sure I know how you would answer that. Others would answer differently.) A scenario: I switch from Keil (where I can demand support because I pay for it)... You can demand anything, or even politely request it. Doesn't mean you'll get it. I'm sure you've heard the same or similar complaints about paid support as I have. Note re F/OSS developers: 'tis far better to politely request than demand. to SDCC where after finding a bug I have two options: a) wait for someone, that has no obligation to me whatsoever, to fix it... Obligation no, desire usually yes. Do the research yourself--F/OSS applications usually get bugs fixed in far less time than proprietary apps. Especially security bugs. ...or b) spend two months getting familiar with the SDCC code and fix it myself some choice. That's always an option. It's usually not necessary, but submitting (good) patches is greatly appreciated by the application maintainers. Look up the definition of "bludger". |
