#132660 - IC makers tools Responding to: ???'s previous message |
IC makers tools have IMHO always been found to be lacking. I can not recall any "IC makers tool" that even rated fair/satisfactory. I have outstanding real bug issues with "IC makers tools" that have been outstanding for over a year. It seems that "we have the tools" is enough to sell chips, when the poor sod has committed his design to chip xxx, sales (read those that have influence on allocation of resources) are happy whether the tools are useable enough or not. DO NOTE I am not asking for the moon, I am asking for "useable enough". I have, in many cases, got "workarounds" that left the tools so productivity hindering that were I not forced to use them, I would throw them away.
Certainly the people who write the tools don't design FPGAs. no, I am sure they are the "PC programmer picked up in the street type". I am amazed when I see how incompetent someone classified as a 'PC programmer' or simply a 'programmer' can be compared to the "incompetence detection mechanism" in REAL embedded shops. Erik SO, bring out some working tools where bugs, when found, are remedied in less than, say, a week and charge a reasonable price for them so you can afford the support. |
