Work ethic, play ethic... Whatever. Antique management methods is more like it. Sounds a little too close to totalitarianism to me. Let me guess, you're about 22 right? ... Not hiring people under 45 is just stupid. It's actually quite smart. When you're older you'll know why. Look at it this way: child labor laws aside, there are many jobs that a 10 year old is quite capable of doing, but it's easy to demonstrate that someone 2 or 3 times that age will do a better job. Experience matters. In addition to missing out on people with recent training in the latest techniques and technology, Now you're showing your lack of experience. Keeping up with the latest techniques and technology is a job requirement for engineers. Just as it is for doctors and lawyers. you leave yourself open to age discrimination suits. Hardly. Age discrimination is nearly absolute in engineering. Anyone with half a brain can find many reasons why any particular candidate "wasn't qualified". It's almost always practiced against older workers, so don't feed me any sob stories when an enlightened company goes the other way. |
