I'm not Craig, but for all intents and purposes, my MacBook Pro and my old ThinkPad G40 are desktop replacements. I haven't turned on the Athlon box in months. Well ... I like the big keyboard, mouse, and 20" display. See below ... Richard said:

I can't imagine having two displays while sitting in a coach seat on a flight from LAX to Logan, and I can't imagine hauling two displays with me either. When I'm in the airport or sitting on the couch surfing the Intertubes whilst watching the basketball playoffs (Go Suns!) of course I'm not using the second display. I'd pay plenty just to ensure I never see a sporting event on my computer! I don't watch the game on the computer ... I sit on the couch, watching the game on TV! Richard said:

But when I'm in the office, I plug in a regular keyboard and mouse, the Gigabit ethernet, and hook up the second monitor and I'm ready to get to work. (FWIW, Mac OS X handles switching between single-monitor setups and dual-head a lot better than XP does.)
-a Aside from my dislike of team sports involving more than two players per team, don't like the way keyboards are presented on notebooks. While I can work with the touchpads, nipple pointers, etc, I like a mouse. In fact, I like a BIG mouse that has some weight, and three buttons. Richard: I noted above that when I'm doing Real Work, I plug in a Real Keyboard and a Real Mouse (actually, a Kensington Expert Mouse trackball). And I use both an external monitor (currently a 19" CRT set to 1600x1200; I'm loathe to toss a working monitor to satisfy gear lust for a Cinema Display) AND the laptop's display. -a |
