The '51 developer market is an inherently small market. That is, in large part, why quality development tools are expensive--they don't sell millions of copies. SDCC is a noble endeavor but it exists because of the passion of those that develop and support it. I do not think there is any viable business opportunity in it. The '51 development market is small to start with it. Further reduce that to the '51 development market that is using Linux and your potential market is about 16 copies. Oh, and students and low-budget hobbyists which are looking for "free." My experience with open source has been that only large projects flourish. I wrote a book in OpenOffice and I think it's a fine alternative. But I wanted to ditch QuickBooks and use GNUCash instead, and that was a joke. I promptly abandoned that effort.
