Craig, you're much more technically astute than the average Windows user. Nevertheless I'll ask you the same thing I ask Joe Sixpack who claims his Windows machine has never gotten viruses or spyware: How do you know? Especially since you don't use AV software.

If you're connected to the internet for any length of time with Windows, the probability of being successfully attacked approaches certainty. And Windows has spyware built in. It's designed that way. Google for "Windows phone home".
