#139120 - If that's what you think ... Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I don't like "being on a leash" and that's what a cellphone or pager represent to me. Now, I don't take any pride in this, but I do dislike having to explain it to everyone. I have a cellphone, but it's not activated unless the client who, a decade ago, paid for it has it activated. He understands that I turn it off when I'm driving, and when I'm in a meeting, and, for that matter, whenever I'm generally "unavailable," and that includes when I'm in the toilet.
My preference is to use the latest technology when it serves me. I, however, don't wish to make a practice of serving it. There's been a computer on my desk or in my office since the late '70's. I would take no pride in being unable to type. In fact, I type >75 wpm which is faster than most secretarial applicants. I find that, since I type faster and spell better, than most such applicants, I don't need a secretary, though I do need someone to do my filing, at least of physical materials. I never learned to "put away my toys" and therefore tend to lose things. RE |
