Sure, RTL isn't "easy" to understand the minute you look at it (depending on the style of course). After all it's not visual. A schematic isn't the right tool for any complex design though. A block diagram that supplements the RTL is a great choice and in my opinion a must, but to argue schematics over rtl...please.
