#126828 - The replacement market
Responding to: ???'s previous message
The replacement market is mostly customers who do not want to put any additional engineering effort into their existing products. They just want to add another vendor to their AVL and forget about it.

The LPC9xx may be equivalent, but it is not identical. For example, it uses a 3V supply rather than a 5 volt supply. And that would require a major system redesign.

My customers are fully capable of doing a redesign, but why spend engineering resources on an older product?

Finally, many of my customers face regulatory requalification if they change their board artwork. It is odd that they can change the part source without re-qual, but that is just the way it is.

--------

In a small number of cases, some customers need to push an existing application a little farther. Having extra capability within my parts increases the odds that they will continue to use the older part rather than switching to a new one.
