These are not new designs, and many customers don't want to have to go back and re-design an existing product
Now you state give existing customers an easy upgrade path
Who on earth would want to "upgrade" NOTE THE QUOTES to a 12/12 chip?

So far, my biggest seller is the Philips P87C751 part in the 24 PDIP / 28 PLCC version Are your customers too stupid to use the equivalent LPC9xx part, if so, this is a totally different discussion.
