My core uses the original Intel instruction timing (Classical). That is important when replacing existing designs and having a chance for the old code to still work.

that's a cop-out. Can't you make something that goes fast?

The market for a 1:1 replacement for the original 12/12 8051 is, I hope and think, a virtual zero.

Also, i you are to process that much code (as you suggest) there is no way in hades that a 12/12 will keep up.
