There's still plenty of bad, but the best is the best in the world. Ethnicity has helped. Can't say the same about the USA, unfortunately. Thirty years has seen the almost total collapse of the 'mom and pop' operations I used to love - all taken over by the McDonald's-type franchises. Bland uniformity rules - OK? And don't get me on to the subject of BEERS. Ian will miss his Wherry - Anheiser-Busch can't compete... Hmm, I'd disagree. There are plenty of good restaurants, including "mom and pop", in the U.S. You just have to know where they are. You usually find them by word of mouth; and with all the immigration to the U.S. in recent years, the number of alternatives is growing. And although I'm not a beer fanatic, I know there are many, many regional microbreweries throughout the country that give some of my friends plenty to talk about. Regards, Craig Steiner |
