If you have a "manufactured" house, and bump into it with your car, you will knock down your house. YMMV, of course, but they're not well insulated for heat, cold, or noise, and they shake in the wind, often leak in heavy rain, and fall down in a storm.
we have some propery in VA on which we may put a "second home". I have investigated modular housing as a possibility for that purpose. What i have learned is that a few years ago modular homes was just glorified mobile homes, however, now the difference is that mobiles must meet some rather lax federal standards wheres modulars must meet local building codes. a modular "off the lot" meet the codes in 90% of locations, if you want it on the remaining 10 you must pay a premium.
