If you like being near the sea, and where it is warm, I would suggest Eric's neck of the woods (either of the Carolinas).
based on your parametres (where on the scale of peace to circus you want to be is not mentioned) may I suggest.
1) Wilmington, NC on the water, 5 miles to the beach, the tourists are on the beach where the hotels are, not in town.
2) Charleston, SC on the water, 10 miles to the beach, tourists in town
3) Myrtle Beach, SC on the beach and a true tourist mecca/circus.

A note; If "the beach" includes going in the water, the water on the East Coast is about 20F warmer than on the west coast due to the Gulf Stream.
