The "WSI" chip you keep mentioning. You mean the ST (u)PSD813-series? Yes, the PSD8xx series still lives on. However, if to be used with a '51, there is no point doing so, as the uPSD3xxx is essentially a glued-together '51 plus the PSD. There are 3 series of uPSD-s, : uPSD32xx, which is a conventinal 12-clocker (with USB or without), uPSD33xx, which is a 4-clocker without USB and uPSD34xx is 4-clocker with USB (the 4clockers contain also a JTAG-interfaced debug facility, I never tried it but some of the participants here did, when the $8 "demo-stick" appeared - see the banner). They all are good for up to 40MHz. All come in either TQFP52 or TQFP80, and with some small exceptions pin-compatible with eacho other (sorry, no DIP44/PLCC44). I'd bet you'll be (at least mildly) impressed by the amound of RAM the higher-end chips have (up to 32kB, with an unusably big heap of FLASH). We buy both from our local distributors, although I admit they are not available through the hobbyist stores around the corner. According to their web, Digikey stocks both PSDs and uPSDs, the prices are in the range of $8-$15 apiece. JW |
