#185900 - cost to debug Responding to: ???'s previous message |

JTAG really isn't important.
What is important is that the chip has some form of internal ICE functionality, and that this functionality is supported by the used debugger. If it's JTAG, BDM, onewire (using reset line) or something else need not be important. "Cost to debug" is normally the main factor, and a number of JTAG adapters are quite expensive. And in the "Cost to debug" category, SiLabs rules and Atmel drools, as we used to say in grammar school. Can't beat the SiLabs $39 JTAG/C2 dongle. I remember looking at the Arduino things when they first started getting press, and the first thing I noticed was that the ICE ports weren't brought out. Then I looked for the cost of the JTAG/ICE/whatever dongle, and found it cost almost $300 for the particular micro flavor. What a mistake. -a |
