Is a hobbyist not extremely likely to gain great advantage from having JTAG debug?. Even with my old eyes I would rather solder a 'difficult' chip than do without emulation. Erik Malund said:

the OP mentioned 'battery' a "power miser" is a chip (such as the 8051f9xx)m that uses very little power. Ah, I see. Quick reading of the datasheets might indicate that the 'LPx052 draws roughly twice the power in active state, but there are not enough data in either of the datasheets to judge how accurate this figure might be in a given application; and I am not interested enough to investigate this further.
