Actually, the topic was more about where an 8051/2 still has a place, as opposed to "larger" 32-bit chips (ARM, in particular) - it wasn't really about 8051/2 versus other 8-bitters.

The only real reason for referring to 8051/2 in particualr is because this is an 8051/2-specific forum!

I cannot even think of PIC or AVR fitting into any of the above.

Actually, I think any 8-bit controller would fit!
