In some applications, multiple real processors are better; in others, multitasking will be better; in still others, there may be little to choose between them! The downside of ... complexity, indeterminancy and latency were acceptable. You still get all those things (maybe in somewhat different guises) with multiple processors. In particular, communication between physically separate processors is usually much slower than between "processes" on the same physical chip. |
