Implicit in the title of this thread, "So What Is An 8051/2 Good For?" is the assumption that there are still applications for which 8051/2 is still a good - or even great - choice!

So the purpose of this thread was to consider what those fields of application might be; ie, to answer Justin's question:

Well, that's pretty much what I said in my opening post:
I see the 8051/2 as a simple controller - so it's appropriate to simple control applications.


I think that something that fits into 8KB Flash, 32 IO, etc is almost certainly going to be a "simple control application"
