It is a local test device, so no problem to have a "more complicated" conector... it is JUST an extra pin in the pin header.
there will be no more cables than the cable the sensor already has.
Also...
Looks like the option 1 needs a transistor or mosfet to hard switch positive when the sensor is making the measure, so the "hardware" part is not so simple.

In my opinion, it's way better the option 2, what do you think?
