No. You can do a "skip rom" and just go ahead without knowing the ID. If you only have one sensor, there is no need to send out the address.

In the same way, you can send out "start temperature conversion" without specifying a target address, making all devices supporting temperature conversion to start a conversion - then you use the explicit address when retrieving the results from the individual sensors.
