Sure, we use Silabs parts, and they are nice for many things.
We also use Atmel parts, and other vendors too.

However, Silabs have blind-spots too :
* They have no Standard package parts, so PLCC44/TQFP44/DIP40 are not there.
* They cannot access external code memory

I know one new design, looking seriously at the AT89LP5xx, because it has quite good support for external code memory.
