#186951 - They can't even do one well! Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I would agree that once you get an IDE organised, it is probably not too difficult to add another device.
Atmel prefer a half-hearted approach. Instead of jumping into bed with IAR, Code Red, Rowley, Keil ... they try to do things themselves. ***** badly ***** IMHO, a silicon manufacturer should concentrate on Silicon, App notes, Evaluation hardware. Leave a Software company to concentrate on Compilers, Debuggers, Simulators, IDEs. Obviously they should cooperate closely with the Simulator / debugger side. In fact Atmel have 8051, AVR-8, AVR32, ARM as four different architectures. And ARM-M0 is fairly different to ARM9. Most devices nowadays have free / subsidised tools of varying quality. The 8051 has the excellent Keil tools. If SiLabs thought that it was worth their while, they would possibly subsidise uVision in a similar way. David. |
