Whilst the 8051 division is not as large as the AVR, it is still active.

They have just released the AT89LP51ID2/ED2/RD2 series, and these are so new, the Disti's have prices up, but no stocks yet.

Their smaller AT89LP51/LP52 are widely stocked, as they have been out longer, and they have good price points for 40 pin parts.

Atmel are well placed to pick up NXP customers.
