However, if he uses a PCI-based (motherboard-based) parallel port, in EPP (NOT ECP!) mode, he can take about 8 samples per microsecond if he does his sampling in a loop and long-word-wide. EPP will shuffle the data words into a byte stream, and reassemble them into the long words once they're in the PC. It's just a software problem at that point. That's not wonderfully fast, but will enable one to do things impossible in the ISA version.
yes, but part of the "software" is Windows. I can not see Windows allowing that, but then what does a cleaning lady know about windows, she does not do them. My assesment here is based on all the "wonderful" software timed programs that fell apart when windows replaced DOS. Erik |
