"a simple LA" sure, but "a simple LA worth anything" there is no such thing.
If the purpose of this excersize is to show that "signals can be captured in some rudimentary form on the LP port" sure, but if it is "build a logical analyzer worth anything using only the LP port" baloney. To have any worth, you need at the very minimum a 1us resolution and that will even be misleading in many cases. Vignesh started working on an AVR-based simplistic LA. I believe he would be able to get as high resolution as 1us (1MHz sampling rate) quite easily; AVRs go as high as 20MHz today, with a mostly-single-cycle instruction set a short sampling (as far as the internal SRAM stretches) can be accomplished maybe even at slightly higher rate. I'd encourage him in working on this one. I never said the LPT-based LA is a very good idea. Jan Waclawek |
