Nowadays they appear to be ashamed of the fact that they played key role in the most of what digital electronics is today, desperately striving to be The Computer Processor Company. Intel is now known only as the processor company, probably because of the lack of competition in this field apart from AMD (for now). This keeps their wafer fabs working to maximum capacity, keeping the bottom line healthy. However, Microsoft's recent announcement that their next desktop version of Windows will also be available ARM should prove a massive wake-up call for Intel. Who knows, maybe they might allow the impossible (again?) and start making ARM cores on their fab lines instead? Laughable perhaps, but then anything is possible.. Regards, Valentin |
