Do yourself a favour guys, ditch the '51 and go AVR I think one might do oneself a better favour by ditching a single-manufacturer tie-in? Yes, I agree with that logic but consider this, about 5 years ago I purchased 50 AT89C51ED2 PDIL40 which runs at 60MHz, then ATMEL stopped producing the AT89C51ED2 PDIL40 version, its not such a problem because I could use the AT89C51RC2 in PDIL40 or alternatively use ANDY's idea and hop to another manufacturer like Philips, the closest equivalent they have is P89V51RD2 so great, except max. clock speed is 40MHz.Also, if you change or program the P89V51RD2 in x2 mode then you cannot reprogram x2 mode back into x1 mode using flash magic, you will need a parallel programmmer for that. Eriks idea is to use the SILAB's but all their parts are (1) very expensive and (2) only available in smd which counts me out. Then there's Dallas, quick check at Farnell reveals the Dallas '51's selling for about £22 each which is crazy, also the Dallas part only has 1kbyte of ram which is far short, 33mips which is fast enough in some instances of DSP applications, but with 1kbyte of ram, pah! rubbish. Who else manufactures '51 in PDIL40 at low cost? Cheers JA |
