#178626 - USB modems really nifty Responding to: ???'s previous message |
A good trigger requires good hw.
In case of traditional scopes, you need extremely fast hardware - gallium-arsenide or similar. If using an audio card, the PC will be fast enough to stream sound continuously, so for flank-trigged trigger, the software can trivially look for first sample above or below trigg level. More complex work is to implement protocol-driven trigger handling, where the software doesn't look for a flank but looks for specific patterns. Simple steps may be horisontal and vertical sync for video signals. More complex may be to synchronize with RS232, LIN, ... But all that is irrelevant for this problem. I definitely recommend a cheap USB scope for hobbyists. I have some myself. Not good but solves some problems that are extremely hard to solve without a scope. And sometimes nice to have something so small they can be carried in a pocket. I just wish the hw issues had been solved so my N900 phone could be used in USB host mode. |
