It is possible to waste a lot of money/effort by "saving money"

I would recommend to the OP that he ignores this, albeit intersting, discussion about an "audio card scope" UNLESS he happens to have an audio card installed and the only cost will be a couple of wires. If he does that he STILL has to consider that what he sees probably is a false picture due to the lack of DC and banswidth.

I sincerely hope this discussion has not led the OP to spend money on any of this
