If he sees where his original choice leads him, he'll back away
the point IS "how much will he spend before he backs away" Warning him of the costs he will incur on that "original choice" is hardly digressing from his post you are concerned with his 'savings' using recycled parts I am concerned with his expenses trying to use them Erik As I said, you've missed the point. Nobody but the stupidest idiot alive would buy one part or piece of equipment before he knows what else he needs. This guy has a bunch of parts in a cargo van. He can look to see what he's got. If he lacks something, he will have to buy it, but before he does that, he would presumably put together an order, so as to avoid paying shipping for 11 packages when all his parts would fit in one box. Further, only a fool would buy parts before reading the datasheets. Only a fool would buy hardware with which to do things when the task is incompletely defined. It's one thing to try to make parts he already has work. It's another to buy one part before he knows that his list of requirements is complete. Back when you were first dealing with micros and eproms, you were apparently pretty unsophisticated. Presumably you've wised up over the decades. You should give Nathan, who's doing this as an experimentation project and not as a commercial design, the credit for having a little bit of sense. RE |
