True - but horses are not very practical in today's traffic! If his goal is to make the horse go, why not use the buggy whip? If the OP had a specific reason to be re-creating a bygone era, why didn't he bother to say so? I'd guess, based on what I've seen here in past years, that he's got an 80C31 and wants to play with it. Buying a board would be a better path to where he likely wants to go, but might not fit his budget. A more expensive board would probably fit his budget less well. Edit:
And note that this discussion about alternative approaches started out with "if if you are just starting ....". The OP made no effort to contradict that assumption - so it seems a reasonable one! I agree, which is why I mentioned that "ancient" NMIY-0031 board. It has an 80C31 on it and is really cheap (~$40US) Erik Malund said:
... as your post seems to indicate As noted elsewhere, the opening post does not look like the work of someone who has given careful thought & consideration to the situation... Undeniably true ... :-( This gives rise to the question of whether it's easier for a rannk beginner to learn the "modern" on-chip debugging tool offered by SiLabs or a debug monitor like the one on that board I mentioned, or that Ultramon51, which I like better. I'd guess it's about the same, and, because it's transferable at least to other SiLabs boards, learning that tool as opposed to multiple monitors might, in fact, be a reasonable choice, aside from the higher cost. Since the guy's a hobbyist or experimenter, rather than a professional, I'd guess he'd prefer the lower-cost option. What do you think? RE |
