Do you really believe that God literally struck Ananias dead because he refused to tithe? Isn't it more likely that the priests did it to make an example of him?
What about Onan? Did God really strike him dead for refusing to consort with his deceased brother's wife (she must have been a real bowser!) as was the custom of the day, and "casting his seed upon the ground." Recent archaeological expedition determined quite conclusively that, if all other historical details are reasonably correct, the city of Jericho had been abandoned for over 200 years when Joshua brought his "army" there to fight the renowned battle we all heard about in Sunday School. I think there's lots of room for interpretation ... doubt, even. Doubt, certainly, when someone offers to interpret it for us ... for pay. RE |
