It seems as though these "religious" schools are popping up everywhere. Colorado Springs is full of them, with ground for new sectarian schools and churches being broken every week.
What really puzzles me is why these people have to adopt an adversarial position, trying to tell us that there's gross conflict between, say, the fossil record and the scriptures. Isn't it all subject to interpretation? Surely there's at least as much evidence that points toward a reconcilable position than toward continued conflict. It certainly troubles me that the old, tried and true community and church relationship has been destroyed over the past century or so. Back in the days, before my time, when the nation was strong and healthy, each community had its church and its preacher, but the preacher was generally the poorest member of the community, aside, perhaps, from the town drunk. The community wanted a preacher, so they kept one, fed him, attended and supported his church, and relied upon him to minister to their spiritual needs. Today's churches boast about how rich their pastor is, how big and fancy their church is, and care very little about what all that represents. It's sad ... RE |
