Well what is telling the monkeys to stop after they get the first word right? Precisely,in nature, the SELECTION occurs by the environmental test of fitness. In the monkey typing scenario there is NO fitness test. THE SELECTION IS NOT RANDOM. IT FAVOURS THE BEST FITTED TO THE ENVIRONMENT. IT REQUIRES NO "INTERVENTION". Natural forces can winnow out poor solutions to a problem. Let us imagine cliff dwelling birds perhaps. A random mutation makes their eggs more spherical, these eggs are probably more likely to fall off the cliff, but a mutation making them cuboid would make them more likely to stay,but kill the hen. So we get the egg we see today, which can roll in small-ish circles, and yet can be laid by a hen. NOTHING hasmade a conscious decision, yet a design has become more fitted to its environment.
