#114837 - Kamiokande Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Joseph Hebert said:
As for Kamiokande bearing on the age of the universe, you nailed it. Once they know the decay mechanism and rate, they can determine the age of protons, and by extension the age of the universe. How does it tell you the age ? How does knowing the half life of a radio-isotope tell you how long it was since it came into being ? Isotope RATIOS help I grant you. And in that case which other fundamental particle decay will you measure ? I can't think of any cosmologists, except dear old John Dobson who seriously theorise that the age of the observable universe ( all we CAN know about) is more than 14-15 Gyr. Steve |
