#114826 - Myth and reason Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Joseph Hebert said:
My only point about evolution is not whether it did or did not occur. My point is that if you do an objective quantitative analysis you must conclude that natural selection is insufficient, not sufficient, to account for evolution if the mutations are random. This is incorrect. Do the math. You will find that the average time necessary for an average species to evolve from its directly antecedent species, if left to random mutations and natural selection, is astronomically many times the age of the whole universe... The time required can be as short as decades. Do the research. Major changes take longer to evolve than minor changes, but even so, completely new genera can evolve in as little as a few million years. In the end it is important to understand that no corporeal reason can prove God. Agreed. Nor can reason alone disprove the hypothesis. But as a scientist you absolutely must recognize that what is being suggested by random mutation and natural selection can not withstand scrutiny. On the contrary. It withstands scientific scrutiny extremely well. What it will not and cannot stand up to is religious/superstitious scrutiny for the simple reason that mythology can make any unprovable claim. Science cannot. |
