The L6506, the MOSFET array and the free wheeling diodes should be built very compact and should be located as near as possible to the stepper. Feed the supply voltage (which goes to pin 2 and 5 of stepper) from this module to stepper and have a decoupling cap for this voltage at the module. This keeps the current loops minimal, not only for the motor currents, but also for the reverse currents of free wheeling diodes.
