If your goal is to replace an 805x in a cost-sensitive application, well, switching to a LINUX-based setup would, indeed, be a bit over the top, but if your goal was, ultimately, to give up on the venerable 805x core and focus on ARM core products, as ARM would certainly prefer, then the LINUX-based approach might not be so ludicrous.
